Tani, Proletar Melayu dan Amalan Ideologi Kelas

Abstract

Existing studies on the Malaysian peasantry have not given deserved attention to proletarianisation and the new ideological forms it has reconstituted in society. Thus far, no systematic analysis has yet been undertaken to show how class, ethnicity and other elements are synthesised at the level of a specific ideological discourse of the peasantry. The present paper focuses on a case study of Malay peasants who have been transformed into plantation wage labourers. It is hoped that an understanding of their emerging ideology can throw further in sights into the links between peasant and prolelarian modes of consciousness.
