Capitalist Development and the Formation of the Bureaucratic Bourgeoisie in Peninsular Malaysia

Abstract

This paper is an attempt to analyse and understand the particular historical circumstances which have allowed for the transformation of a bureaucratic governing stratum into a bureaucratic bourgeoisie in Peninsular Malaysia. The first part of the article theoretically locates the problem in the context of the articulation of global and internal dynamics of capitalist development. The second and major section discusses the concepts relevant to the subject matter and attempts to investigate the Malaysian case with the use of specific theoretical and analytical tools.
