Islam And The End Of History
Main Article Content
Abstract
The author takes issue with Fukuyama's thesis on the "end of history" as the triumph of the liberal, democratic capitalist system. This thesis fails to appreciate that other civilizations which are non-Western may provide alternative paradigms for history's evolution. Such could be the role of Islam, for example, Muslims have considered themselves to be participants in the making of history. It is also true that they have been objects and shapers of history but more improtantly, as makers of history, they could at this present phase contribute bu democratising Islam as well as Islamizing democracy. The "end of history" has to be a marriage of more than one civilisation and more than one standard of values.
