Fixing Malaysia's Fixed Exchange Rate Regime: Some Options

Abstract
In the wake of the financial crisis of 1997, Malaysia imposed capital controls and opted for a fixed exchange rate. Although these moves provide some breathing space in the short-term, they are not necessarily the best for the economy in the longer-run. This article examiens the various exchange rate options available for the ringgit and suggests "least cost" solutions for the future.
