Abstract

This article analyses the changes of psychology and business culture of Chinese entrepreneurs in the contexts of structural changes (economic and political policies, and the structure of Malaysian society) from 1960s to 1990s. The author shows that the Chinese business culture in Peninsular Malaysia in the 1990s is going through a process of transformation from an old style partnership to a new style partnership. This transformation is only made possible with mass changes in the economic policy and society which include: The emergence of some social basis such as changes of attitude among the Chinese business community toward the government policies and the emergence of a class of Bumiputera capitalist who are capable to manage big companies and big businesses has made this strategic partnership a success.


 


Makalah ini menganalisis perubahan psikologi dan budaya niaga usahawan Cina dalam konteks perubahan struktur dasar-dasar ekonomi, politik dan struktur masyarakat Malaysia dari dekad 1960-an hingga khir dekad 1990-an. Penulis menunjukkan budaya niaga usahawan Cina di Semenanjung Malaysia dalam dekad 1990-an berada pada peringkat perubahan daripada perniagaan bentuk lama kepada perniagaan bentuk baru. Transformasi ini dimungkinkan oleh perubahan besar dalam dasar ekonomi dan struktur masyarakat yang melibatkan asas-asas sosial seperti perubahan pendirian di kalangan usahawan Cina terhadap dasar-dasar kerajaan, dan kemunculan satu kelas kapitalis Bumiputera yang berkebolehan menguruskan syarikat-syarikat dan perniagaan-perniagaan besar.
