Abstract

This study analyses the influence of foreign workers’ perceptions on their length of employment in the services sector in Malaysia. Aspects of perception studied comprised four categories: relationships with employers, laws and regulations, life and social aspect, and the workplace environment. The survey included 844 low-skilled foreign workers from various service subsectors. The analysis uses a structural equation model (SEM) done through SmartPLS. The findings demonstrate that relationship with employers, laws and regulations, and the workplace environment significantly benefit their working period in Malaysia. Whereas, life and social aspects, although significant, affect the working period negatively. The implications of this study suggest that the recruitment and employment of foreign workers need to be improved as they want to work longer in the country.
