The Climate Of Penang Island
Main Article Content
Abstract
In Penang Island, changes in the weather and climate have been observed in recent years. Penang Island's unique environmental factors that affect its climate include its varying altitude, topography, vegetation, air quality, maritime nature and its exposure to the monsoon winds. Cultural factors also influence the climate of Penang Island to a lesser degree. These include its high rate of industrialisation, pollution, heavy traffic and its rapidly changing land use patterns. All these factors have combined to create a changing climatic regime for Penang Island. This paper is essentially a statistical analysis of the current mean and variability patterns of various climatic elements of Penang Island such as temperature, sunshine, relative humidity, rainfall and wind.
