Journal Policies

The Journal of Asian Geography (JAG) is committed to maintaining high standards of academic quality, research integrity, publication ethics, transparency, and responsible scholarly publishing. The journal follows internationally recognised principles and best practices in academic publishing.

1. Open Access Policy

The Journal of Asian Geography is a fully open access journal. All published articles are freely available online immediately upon publication.

Articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) licence. Readers may read, download, share, and reuse published articles in accordance with the terms of the licence, with appropriate acknowledgement of the original authors and source.

2. Publication Fee Policy

The Journal of Asian Geography does not charge authors any submission fee, article processing charge (APC), publication fee, or page charge.

There are no fees for submitting, reviewing, or publishing articles in the journal.

3. Peer Review Policy

The Journal of Asian Geography adopts a single-blind peer review process. Submitted manuscripts undergo an initial editorial assessment before being considered for external peer review.

Manuscripts considered suitable for review are normally evaluated by at least two independent reviewers with relevant expertise. The final editorial decision is made by the Editor-in-Chief or an assigned editor based on the reviewers' comments, the quality of the manuscript, and its suitability for the journal.

4. Publication Ethics and Research Integrity

The Journal of Asian Geography is committed to maintaining high standards of publication ethics and research integrity and adheres to the principles and best practices of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

Authors, editors, reviewers, and the publisher are expected to uphold academic integrity, transparency, confidentiality, and responsible scholarly communication.

The journal does not tolerate plagiarism, fabrication, falsification, duplicate publication, inappropriate manipulation of data or images, or other forms of publication misconduct.

5. Authorship and Contributions

Authorship should reflect substantial contributions to the conception, design, conduct, analysis, or interpretation of the research.

All listed authors must have made meaningful contributions to the work, approved the final version of the manuscript, and agreed to its submission and publication.

Individuals who have contributed to the work but do not meet the criteria for authorship should be appropriately acknowledged.

6. Conflict of Interest

Authors must disclose any financial, personal, professional, or institutional relationships that could reasonably be perceived as influencing the research or its interpretation.

Editors and reviewers must also declare potential conflicts of interest and should not participate in the evaluation of manuscripts where a conflict exists.

7. Funding and Acknowledgements

Authors should disclose all sources of financial support, research grants, institutional assistance, and other significant support received for the research.

Contributions from individuals or organisations that do not qualify for authorship should be appropriately acknowledged.

8. Copyright and Licensing

Authors are responsible for ensuring that submitted manuscripts and their contents do not infringe the copyright or intellectual property rights of third parties.

Where required, authors must obtain permission to reproduce or adapt copyrighted material, including figures, maps, photographs, tables, and other illustrations.

Articles published by the Journal of Asian Geography are distributed under the CC BY 4.0 licence.

9. Figures, Maps, Tables, and Third-Party Materials

Authors are responsible for ensuring that all figures, maps, photographs, tables, and other illustrations included in their manuscripts are original, appropriately licensed, or used with the necessary permission.

Where an illustration is obtained or adapted from an external source, the original source must be clearly acknowledged and cited.

The source should be stated immediately below the relevant figure or illustration caption and presented according to the journal's APA referencing style.

10. Use of Artificial Intelligence

Authors may use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to assist with appropriate aspects of manuscript preparation, such as language improvement, grammar checking, or translation.

AI tools cannot be listed as authors or co-authors. Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, integrity, and scholarly content of their manuscripts, including content produced or modified with the assistance of AI.

Where AI tools have been used substantially in manuscript preparation or research, authors should disclose their use in accordance with the journal's requirements.

11. Research Data and Transparency

Authors are responsible for ensuring that the data, methods, analytical procedures, and other information presented in their manuscripts are reported accurately and transparently.

Where appropriate and where ethical, legal, and confidentiality requirements permit, authors are encouraged to make supporting data, materials, code, or other research resources available to facilitate verification and reproducibility.

12. Corrections and Retractions

The Journal of Asian Geography is committed to maintaining an accurate and reliable scholarly record.

Where significant errors are identified after publication, the journal may publish an appropriate correction or other editorial notice.

Articles may be retracted when published findings are substantially unreliable because of serious errors, research misconduct, plagiarism, fabrication, falsification, or other significant breaches of publication ethics.

13. Editorial Independence and Confidentiality

Editorial decisions are based on the academic quality, originality, relevance, and contribution of submitted manuscripts.

Editors and reviewers must maintain the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts and must not use unpublished information obtained during the review process for personal or other purposes.

14. Complaints and Appeals

Authors may contact the editorial team regarding legitimate concerns about editorial decisions, peer review, publication ethics, or other matters relating to the journal.

Complaints and appeals will be considered fairly and in accordance with the journal's applicable procedures and ethical standards.

15. Policy Updates

The Journal of Asian Geography periodically reviews its policies to ensure that they remain consistent with developments in scholarly publishing, research integrity, open access, and international publication ethics.

The journal may update its policies when necessary. Substantive changes will be communicated through the journal website.
