Overview on Illegal Drug Abuse in Malaysia

Abstract

Illegal drug abuse is a major problem in Malaysia, declared as Nation's number one enemy by the Malaysian Prime Minister in 1983. Since then massive efforts to curtail this problem were carried out including programmes in preventation, rehabilitation, legislation enactment and implementation. This article attempts to analyse if significant if significant improvement occur as a result of our efforts. This article also touches on the pattern of drug abuse in Malaysia and problems commonly encountered with abusing drugs, the most pressing problem now being HIV infection.
